With their daughter in Peru with the Peace Corps, Luther (Allen) and Nora (Curtis) Krank decide for once to forget decorating, fruitcakes and parties for Christmas and go on a Caribbean cruise instead. But their neighbors are aghast, especially local busybody Vic Frohmeyer (Aykroyd). As the battle between the Kranks and their neighbors escalates, threatening the harmony of the community, Luther and Nora find out that Blair is coming home for Christmas after all. Now the Kranks have less than 24 hours to get themselves and all the families and neighbours back in the proper Christmas spirit.
