Starring Julie Walters, Rupert Grint and Laura Linney
Directed by Jeremy Brock
Seventeen-year-old Ben (Grint) is a shy teenager looking to break away from the influence of Laura, his religious, domineering mother. To take some control of his life, he finds a part-time job working as an assistant for Evie (Walters), an elderly, eccentric actress. Laura believes Evie isn't a good influence on her son, but Ben is happy to find someone he can talk to who encourages him to pursue his goals. What follows is a journey in which Ben and Evie help each other move forward in their radically different lives, as Ben is forced to confront how he was brought up and who he wants to become.
“They [Walters and Grint] make a terrific screen couple. Walters is alternately zany and poignant, with Grint the perfect foil, a bemused, confused innocent who only wants to do good.” – Bill White, Seattle Post Intelligencer
