Oscar-nominated for Best Makeup Award, the story revolves around Edward (Depp), a man/monster created with long shears for hands in a half-finished experiment, lives in the neighbourhood's abandoned castle. One day when the local Avon lady calls at the mansion and discovers him, she attempts to bring this lonely and shy creature home to live with her family. There, Edward goes through a series of growing experiences, some of them funny, some of them frightening, while trying to find his place in the suburban world.
