Local Color is the inspirational based-on-fact story of John (Morgan), a talented but troubled 18-year-old art student and his mentor, Nicoli (Mueller-Stahl), an elderly alcoholic Russian artist who has become a recluse. What appears to be at first a tenuous relationship soon develops into a budding friendship. Nicoli’s life had appeared meaningless to him until John rekindles his interest in his work and ultimately gives him the will to live. Meanwhile, John learns to see the world through his mentor's eyes and both their lives are forever changed in ways they did not expect.
