Abby (Murphy) is a young American woman who finds herself suddenly stranded in Tokyo after her boyfriend leaves her. Alone in a foreign culture, Abby ends up hanging out in her neighborhood ramen shop, seeking comfort from the locals. After observing the magical effects the noodle soup has on the customers, she convinces herself that she is destined to become a ramen chef. Abby persuades the restaurant’s temperamental chef (Nishida) to teach her the art of cooking. Although their relationship is rocky at the start, the two soon discover that passion is the one ingredient missing from their lives.
