Set in New York's literary world, this is a retelling of the classic fable of a man who sells his soul to the devil for fame and fortune. Jabez Stone (Baldwin), a down-and-out writer, negotiates a deal with the Devil (Love Hewitt), exchanging his soul for a successful literary career. Although his low-quality novels are panned by critics, they instantly become bestsellers. Despite his success, Stone soon learns that fame and wealth bring unexpected consequences. After realizing his mistake, he enlists the help of a famed orator Daniel Webster (Hopkins) in an effort to break the contract and win back his soul.
