Chris Kelvin (Clooney) is a psychologist still mourning the loss of his wife Rheya (McElhone). When a colleague invites him to investigate the strange occurrences at the Prometheus space station, he arrives only to find that he already committed suicide. The only remaining crew is the cryptic, babbling Snow (Davies) and the paranoid, guarded Gordon (Davis). As Kelvin interrogates them, he learns that they've had apparitions of long-dead friends, family, and loved ones who are apparently being generated by the interstellar energy source Solaris. Kelvin is skeptical at first, but when he is greeted by his wife, Kelvin gradually becomes obsessed with her to a point where the others begin to fear for his sanity.
