When a big insurance company tries to keep from having to pay for the care that a young man diagnosed with leukemia needs, the family decides to hire a lawyer. Fresh out of law school, Rudy (Damon) teams up with Deck Schifflet (DeVito) and opens his own office. Taking on this client as his first case, he faces many obstacles on and off the courtroom, making it difficult for him to be an honest lawyer.
