Inspired by true events, Tropa de Elite takes place in the most vicious, drug ridden slums of Rio de Janeiro in the mid 90’s. The film tells the story of two long-time friends who decide to enlist in Rio de Janeiro's Military Police Department. After juggling their police jobs and college, both make up their minds to try out for a Special Operations Squad whose mission is to take down the drug-lords that plague the city. Both men struggle to survive as violence and police corruption begin to fracture both their personal lives and their friendship.
